Ragna Sigurdardottir art-critic writes about Kristin's work:
Kristin Gardarsdottir works in both clay and glass. Touch is important
when working with clay and Kristin´s ceramics, with their finesse and
devotion to detail, are influenced by her stay in Japan where she was
inspired by traditions that go back centuries. She has her glass blown
for her, according to precise specifications.
Kristin employs a range of techniques, producing sculpture, reliefs
and craft items, and many of her works exploit the tensions that
emerge at the boundaries between these differing worlds. The texture
of the clay is important, matt or gloss, rough or smooth. The form of
her sculptures is organic and soft while at the same time being
classic, simple and defined. Her works are imbued with a human
closeness that comes to light in photographs burnt into the clay,
fingers and hands, mouths and eyes create a delicate pattern and
remind us of art’s role as a tool for communication.
The glass items shown by Kristin in Bornholm are on the boundary
between art and craft that exemplify her work. Form and colour combine
in the creation of bowls, glasses and carafes, that have unexpected
properties. They can dance but never lose their balance. The form
suggests the possibility of playful motion, harmony between the user
and the object. Here, Kristin´s work offers creative human
communications.
